The Definition of a Great Leader

Uncommon leadership through foundational principles

Intro

Good leaders are your solid rocks, developing people, delivering good results. Your great, dare I say exceptional leaders, deliver it all, maybe even wrapped with a bow. Finding or developing great leaders is a more rare gem, you know it when you see it, but they aren’t always in every corner you encounter. Great leaders deliver great things, by developing great teams.

The Story

Thinking of what makes a great leader. Getting this ever expanding list into one phrase can be difficult, yet so important to roll these drivers up with one clean leadership purpose statement. Rooted in experience working across manufacturing, engineering, supply chain and logistics, and professional services, a consistent pattern becomes clear:

Leaders steering the ship with people empowered through values, vision, and innovation, win over time through a meaningful purpose.

Those driving results despite people, running over them or dismissing people, continue to wonder what the bigger picture even is, feeling unfulfilled—the entire reason their role or the company itself exists. This often leads to instances of miserable periods of a career with misguided or zero personal mission, lacking clarity of impact and giving through service. Simple intent and purpose over complexity or selfish conquest.

Closing

Still working on tightening this up, but I like where it’s headed. All through searching for the secrets feeding the formula to leadership greatness, one leader, and team at a time.

Great leadership is worth the effort to find the most concise and clear formula for leadership success and a path to greatness. It’s not a playbook, but rather a core set of principles to build greatness upon.
