Shift Your Perspective to Move Momentum
Find Your Spark by Getting Out and Doing Something

Intro
Attending events and conferences has fueled my personal growth and content flywheel for writing and thinking. If you think you will just run into the idea, concept, great job, interesting opportunity, inspiration, or amazing people while sitting at home and thinking about it, you may be in for a rude awakening. I’m sure it happens for some, but for me, I have to move. I move in an office, around the house, walk the neighborhood, or travel, and immerse my self amongst the room I want to be in. Sometimes you must make moves to create change. Shift perspective to move momentum.

Manifestation thru action
You hear about manifestation and it gets dismissed by many so quickly, and of course I agree, if you just sit and think about what you want to happen, that it won’t just magically appear. But I have seen the power of visualization of your future and taking action to make it happen. Getting crystal clear on what you want and going to get it. The more you talk about, take action towards, and think about your next big goal, the more likely you will gravitate towards, attract, and find opportunities to make it happen. This means doing whatever it takes to put yourself in the best position for opportunities.
You can do this in a number of ways:
Reading
Writing
Warm outreach to network
Cold outreach for new introductions
Going to events- trade shows, conferences, ,
Going to areas to observe how people you emulate behave, live, do
Giving yourself a taste of that life, not spoiling yourself or over spending dramatically, but showing yourself what that level can be like
Social interaction - online or in person, sharing ideas, testing, getting feedback, and iterating.

This past year I attended numerous events and even hosted some of my own dinners and meet-ups. Some required travel, some didn’t. Some were successful, some weren’t. What did I get from each? I met some great people from some of these events, and I am grateful for making the connection and staying in touch with people that align with my work or interests.
Another thing, ideas. Spark. I learned so much about my focus, ideas, and my own business by learning from others. Even if the content wasn’t directly relevant to my current business, I was able to gain takeaways that will serve my journey moving forward.
For successful ROI from events, in my experience, they should be tailored to content, information, people (speakers and/or audiences), activity, location, and openness to networking.

Here are a few events I have attended (or organized) in 2024:
Main Street Summit, Columbia, MO
Acquired Live, SF
RecFest, Nashville
Chicago x2
Operations Nation’s cONference, London
Leaders of London Dinner
HR Lab
Local SHRM chapter meetings (Lafayette and Indianapolis)
Rally 2024
First Tuesday, Crane
Connect to Mission, Crane
Multiple other small events

Build your own life and career experience by going out and doing things. Even if it’s not travel initially, attend digital sessions online, engage, learn, grow, and teach yourself to think and connect other ideas, industries, and principles to your own work. Grow yourself and feed your own personal content flywheel though getting out doing things. Create opportunity by taking action. The more you put yourself in this position, the more it takes on a life of it’s own, pushing you to put yourself out there, learn, and share.
