The People Blueprint

Prioritizing your people, team, and talent moves your organization forward

How much do you value your people? A few thoughts from Cameron Herold, founder of the COO Alliance, an experienced operations, people, and organizational culture thought leader, who gives a significant level of attention and credence to how we lead people. In listening to Cameron, you don’t hear him get into the weeds on process, tech, or even strategy in many ways, he talks about PEOPLE. Hiring, leading, upskilling, developing, and empowering people. That’s it. Everything else can be applied, learned, or purchased, if you can hire, lead, develop, and retain your people.

His stories about his experience and leadership lens have encouraged me as an operational people leader, and helped me realize a great deal about my own leadership journey. His insights serve as an important reminder, and sparks meaningful realizations. I recommend following Cameron if you are interested in Operations or Leadership. You don’t have to want to be a COO/CEO for it to be highly relevant to your leadership journey, today.

And the best of all, Cameron shows up as genuine leader, because he presents the real him, whether that be dropping a few choice words, wearing a jean jacket, or sharing a story about hiking in Bhutan.

Below are a few quotes from Cameron that hit home with me and pushed me to think about the importance, value, and magic of people leadership within your operation. It’s always been important to me, but his style has helped me zone in to evaluate where I am and how I want to evolve as a leader.

- “Winning starts by getting the right people on the bus, you can figure out what is the right seat for them later.”

- “The number one asset of any business is its people. It’s not your product, it’s not your service, it’s not your brand. It’s your team.”

- “The more you grow your people. The more they’ll grow your brand.”

- “Your team has to be the happiest part of your team. Because your customers will not care about your brand unless your team does”

- “Flip the org chart upside down, think of your org chart like an inverted pyramid”, “We need to show up as leaders caring about that [empathy]”, “When you actually show up caring about your people, caring about their lives, that’s what will get them to run through brick walls for you and help you build the company.”
