What this is not: some huge group servicing itself, it’s not some expensive membership for high-end exec professionals. This is not just a brand to slap on your profile.

Announcing two professional community and networking groups:

The first, is a professional development and networking community launching now with our first session the week of June 17th, CHROi, (Collaborative Human Resource/Return on Investment)

The second, will be more of a “consortium” or individually represented firms that service clients, and will be invite only. There is a small blurb on this later in today’s newsletter.

I’m planning to partner with a community building expert to help launch and foster these groups, helping cultivate real value for members.

For today, we’re going to focus on CHRO/i:

CHRO/i is community-guided, so a lot of the focus will be based on what you want and need. This is not the same as the national association some of you may belong to, which is a great forum, but this community is different. How? Join, and let’s make it different, how we want a group to work.

Here are a few things I want to embrace-

  • Member-guided

  • Collaborative

  • Supportive

  • Authentically human

  • Curiosity-driven, no strict boundaries

  • Not here to check the box, but for real learning and connection

  • Unique, specific, and tangible with a global reach

  • Local meet-ups for concentrations of members

  • Ground rules established for broader ways of working, not on details

Basics

  • Who: HR, Talent, and Organizational Development professionals

  • What: Community of professionals sharing, learning, and connecting

  • When: Monthly sessions initially

  • Where: Online video, with future local meet-ups where possible

  • Why: We want connection, collaboration, growth, and opportunity

  • How: Monthly membership

Shout out to Rand Larsen, Bruce Sing, Bernie DeSantis III, for the inspiration recently, amongst other thought leaders I have followed for the last two years. And thank you to groups I have learned about over the last couple years, as this has shaped this group influencing into a group that is different, unique to its own audience and style.

Here is what I am thinking:

  • More efficient connection for HR, Talent and Org Dev professionals

  • This is not nationally affiliated, no local chapters of some large association

  • Forum for career search support

  • Career growth opportunities

  • Leadership and organizational development

  • Personal development and growth

  • Problem solving or challenge coaching

How did this group come together?

Purpose: I’ve been fortunate to meet hundreds of HR, Talent, and OD professionals over the last several years, and one-one connections just aren’t sustainable at scale to support the community how I would like to serve and collaborate.

With dozens of HR professional introductions and meetings over the last few months, I realized there was something here beyond quick 1-1 intros online, and it seems silly, and frankly transactional and unproductive to just have one-off networking calls or intro meetings where there are other ways to serve and connect. Unfortunately, 1:1 is just not scalable and when you do so many they all run together, it’s difficult to make real connection and initiate collaboration, connect others, and facilitate a meaningful environment.

The need to offer more to this community of professionals seeking -

  • More career and personal development investing in yourself

  • Connection & collaboration

  • New career opportunities

  • Information and education, with learning and curiosity

Support other professionals

  • What can we do to help

  • Build a community to make real connections

  • Share information and opportunities

  • Introduce ourselves and have more meaningful and collaborative conversations and discussions

  • Both as a group and 1:1

Serious with fun, about improving, connecting, and not just looking for a membership on their profile

  • Well intentioned

  • Professional

  • Build a real community

  • Lift the collective group up, supporting the group to level up their skills, knowledge, and connections

  • Small membership fee $9/mo for founding members to cover technology (Skool and LI initially) investment, this rate is good for the lifetime of your membership

  • Welcome to try out first meeting before joining
