Leaders Coping with Shifting Control

Growing Your Business by Empowering Your People

Intro

That sense of control is what is holding you back.

Engaged, fulfilled, and empowered team members build happy customers, new customers, and more impactful businesses…

Your ability to cope with less control and hands on the business is what will increase your company’s ability to grow, expand, scale, diversify, or improve.

How do you get team members to take more pride and ownership in their work? By giving them something to own in their job and allowing them to do the best they can be in that role. If you want your team to take more accountability and ownership, empower them and make it clear that they drive their work and it’s a reflection of them.

The Story

You are the bottleneck

Autonomy is what is missing. Everything runs through you—decisions, work, problems, relationships, financials, etc. all through you.

Sometimes you just need to make decisions for you.  What’s best for your own sanity as a founder or owner.

Sometimes you need to do what’s best for the business and figure yourself out separately.

Growth requires expanding your mindset

Your ceiling is artificially created by all the common stereotypes, preconceived notions, comments, ideas, limitations—all in your head. You raise and eliminate that ceiling by pushing your own perception and building confidence through direct action, direct at your fears, self-limiting tales, and voices in your head. Decide if that voice holding you back is worth heeding to because of the true facts and potential impacts or likely outcomes that don’t work for your risk profile and life objectives. The key is telling the truth about the rationale you go through on your own head, as we lie to ourselves continuously to stay in our own bubble of comfort.

As a founder or CEO, or high level leader in your organization, this is where there is often struggle—protection over growth. In self and business. Growing as a leader and as a business, but how? By looking in the mirror and deeply seeking the truth. The truth about your business, the truth about yourself and what is really going on versus the story you’re telling yourself. See you’re giving yourself tales of what you want to hear human nature. You need to hear what’s really going on and how you can grow yourself in your business forward and not hold your business back. And if you don’t wanna make this about you. Or a selfish action think about how you’re holding your team back and the opportunity in front of them. You hold the keys to that opportunity to your teams, lives to their growth, both from the compensation and career standpoint in their livelihood your teams lives fulfillment and meaning is tied to the work they’re doing in your business. It’s time to step up and take the accountability and allow others to take the reins in the areas of a business that don’t make sense for you to lead. Don’t allow your own shortcomings, fears and weaknesses. Hold you your business or your team back. Be courageous--in hand off what you know needs to be steered by someone else needs to be run by someone else.

Do the job your best-suited to do

Get yourself out of your job that is killing you or holding you back living in you and taking opportunities and allow yourself to elevate into the role. You really want and need. Your team will appreciate the confidence and ownership that you handover and will take it with full vigor and run and grow your business in a way that you can only foresee in your dreams. Lead confidently and handover the keys.

A lot of people suck at operations don’t let that be you. It’s time to either develop yourself or to bring in someone else and not hold yourself for your business back by trying to grip the bat on something, but this isn’t going to work.

Closing

Letting go is growing yourself and allowing your team to elevate to their full potential, taking your business to its full potential as well. It’s not about losing control, it’s about empowering people, which develops your team to take on what you’re not great at, allowing you to focus on your true unique ability—that’s where you highlight the magic that built this business, and enable it to flourish for continued success and growth.
